Role of a Certified Food Protection Manager MN
In Minnesota each food restaurant/food institution must have at least one full-time employee with a food manager certification MN. A Minnesota certified food protection manager (CFPM) is a director for the establishment’s food safety team who is responsible for:
- Identifying any food contamination risks in the daily operation of the establishment
- Developing and executing arrangements and techniques to avoid foodborne sickness
- Managing the staff food safety training to guarantee there is always one person in charge(PIC)* present whenever food is being handled
- Guiding food handling activities and correcting problems as needed, to guard the health of the consumer
- Conducting intermittent in-house inspections of operations to ensure that staff adheres to all food safety policies and procedures
* Note – Some jurisdictions require a certified food protection manager MN to be present at all times the business is open and operating.

Steps to become State Certified:
- Complete a Safe Food Training Certification course and exam
- Complete the state paperwork
- Complete the MN Initial CFPM application form
- Include a copy of your exam certificate proving that you passed the exam
- Enclose payment amount as specified on the form made payable to Minnesota Department of Health
- Mail information to the State – Send the application form, a copy of your exam certificate and payment to the address on the state application
